Matthew Allison was a three-year letterwinner as a standout member of the Allegheny football program. He helped the Gators compile a 38-6 record from 1991-94.
Over the course of his career, Allison helped lead Allegheny to three North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championships and three trips to the NCAA Tournament.
In 1994, Allison had his most celebrated year when he was named to the Associated Press All-America First Team, CoSIDA All-America First Team and Don Hansen’s Football Gazette Second Team. He also earned his second All-NCAC First-Team honor, while repeating as the Clair Jackson Outstanding Lineman Award winner.
That same year, the Gators posted a 10-1 overall record with an 8-0 mark in the NCAC, but fell to Mount Union 28-10 in the first round of the NCAA playoffs. Allison paved the way for Allegheny to lead Division III in yards per game with an 543.8 average. Along with helping set the school record in total offense (5,438 yards), he was also instrumental in setting school records in points (470) and touchdowns (62) that season.
As a junior, Allegheny posted its second undefeated season in the conference during Allison’s tenure while he earned All-NCAC accolades as a first-team choice and being named the conference’s Most Outstanding Lineman.
