Harry C. "Hoppy" Miller

Harry C. “Hoppy” Miller won four letters in football, four in track, and three in basketball. He served as captain in basketball senior year. 

 

As a football player Hoppy was noted for his speed at the positions of halfback and punter. Miller is cited as one of the greatest open field runners in Allegheny College history. On the basketball court he played forward-center and was the leading scorer as a junior and senior.  In track, Hoppy participated in the pole vault, high jump, and broad jump events. 

 

The 1922 football team, coached by G. Herbert McCracken, has a 6-3 record, but outscored opponents 239-67.

 

Miller served as president of the Block A Club.  He became an inspector for Pennsylvania Department of Highways and a chemist at Viscose Corporation. He died July 12, 1957.
