Way, a 1929 graduate of Springfield College, joined the Allegheny faculty the following year and served as director of athletics and teacher in physical education. 

He inaugurated soccer as a varsity sport in 1934 and coached the team until 1945.  He also coached cross country for two years and track for 10 years.

 

In addition, Way coached the Gator tennis team from 1941-1963 and  His teams had five undefeated seasons and at one point won 18 straight matches. 

 

The courts on the college campus are named in his memory.
