McIndoe, a basketball standout at Allegheny from 1949 through 1953.

A 1953 graduate of Allegheny, McIndoe earned four varsity letters as a member of the basketball squad and served the team as captain in his senior year.  McIndoe was selected Most Valuable Player of the Gator squad and for three years made the All-State cage squad.

McIndoe held many Allegheny basketball records by the time of his graduation.  Included among those is the career scoring record by an Alleghenian, which stood for over 25 years.  McIndoe was the first Allegheny player to score over 1,000 points.

After leading the Gators in scoring in each of his four seasons scoring 226, 260, 300, and 458 points, respectively, McIndoe totaled 1,244 points for his career.  This mark was just surpassed by two 1980 graduates, Eric Lindberg (1,289 points) and Jim Wheeler (1,282 points).

McIndoe’s single season scoring record of 458 points, set in 1953, also stood for over 25 years and Wheeler netted 459 points in the 1978-79 season.  However, Wheeler’s mark came in 24 games played while McIndoe’s 458 points came in 19 games played in ’53.

The Gator cage teams during McIndoe’s seasons compiled records of 3-14, 3-12, 5-11, and 13-6, respectively.

McIndoe played under Coach Alfred C. Werner in his freshman season and under Coach Robert M. Garbark for the remainder of his career.  Garbark, Allegheny ’32, will also become one of the charter members of Allegheny’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

McIndoe is a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.

Originally from Butler, Pa., McIndoe was a member and captain his senior year of the Butler High School basketball squad. As at Allegheny, McIndoe set many scoring records.

In February of 1980 McIndoe was elected to the Butler, Pa., Athletic Hall of Fame.
