David S. Nelson, a versatile athlete, earned his nine letters in soccer, football, and baseball for the Gators. Earning first team awards in the PAC for his soccer abilities, this captain led the team to an undefeated season. After becoming All-time leading scorer in soccer he was then named Athlete of the Year in 1979, in addition to the conference’s Most Valuable Player. Nelson was drafted by the New York Apollo of the American Soccer League.
