Wion won four letters in football and three in track. He played both offensive and defensive halfback in football, and he ran the 100-yard dash, the 200-yard dash, and the 440-yard relay in track.
In 1961, Wion started as a halfback for the Gators and scored three touchdowns during the season to lead the team to a 5-1 record, a first place victory in the Presidents’ Conference, and a 6-1 overall record.
In 1962 he returned to his starting position as halfback, and again scored three touchdowns during the season.
As a junior Wion was the leading scorer in the state of Pennsylvania with 88 points, leading the team to a 4-3 season.
That same season, Wion was named to the All-PAC First Team as an offensive halfback. A member of the All-State First Team as halfback, Wion was nationally acclaimed as the Small College All-FIJI Halfback and an All-American Honorable Mention Choice.
In his final season, he was co-captain, and scored several touchdowns. However, he was moved to a defensive halfback for a good deal of the season, limiting his scoring opportunities.
Wion proved to be an all-around player, as he was also named to the All-PAC First Team as a defensive safety and was chosen as an All-District defensive halfback.
Aside from athletics, Wion was a four-year Alden Scholar, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. in political science.
