Rimer was a member of the football and baseball teams at Allegheny. During his football career, in 1947 he led the Gators in rushing. Twice Rimer was selected AC's most valuable player, and in 1949, he was co-captain. That same year, he tied for team-high scoring honors with 30 points while amassing 697 total yards as a halfback. Also in 1949, Rimer was named to the All-Pennsylvania team. As a third baseman, he won two varsity letters and hit .377 in 1949 to lead Allegheny in that category for the second year in a row.
