Braden P. “Coonie” Hughes

Braden P. “Coonie” Hughes won four varsity letters in football and one in basketball in his freshman year.  Hughes was a member of the Block A Club for four years and president for his junior and senior years.  He was chosen as most valuable player of football his senior year, where he played left end all four years.  The team’s four-year record was 14-17-1.  Hughes started all four years. 

 

Hughes served for four and a half years in World War II.  He played semi-pro basketball in Long Island, in the service and afterwards, until he was 50.  He is retired from the New York Telephone Company where he worked for 40 years.
