During an era of unparalleled success for the Allegheny women’s swimming and diving team, Ann Magdic Petteway was one of the team’s brightest stars under head coach Tom Erdos.

After an impressive career at Norwin High School, the Irwin, Pennsylvania native quickly became one of the most  decorated swimmers in Allegheny history.  Between 1996 and 1999, Ann earned a total of 17 All-America honors spanning four individual and three relay events, while she won North Coast Athletic Conference championships in the 200 breaststroke in both 1997 and 1998.

She earned her first two All-America honors as a freshman at the 1996 NCAA Division III National Championships, doing so in the 200 breast and the 1,650 freestyle.  A year later, Ann turned in All-America finishes in six different events, highlighted by a fourth-place championship finish in the 200 breast to go along with AA honors in the 500 freestyle, 400 freestyle relay, 800 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay.

At the 1998 NCAA Championships, Ann turned in a career-best third-place finish in the 200 breast stroke, while also being crowned All-America in the 100 breast, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, and 800 medley relay.  She then capped off her star-studded career  as a senior in 1999, earning All-America honors in the 200 breast, 200 freestyle relay, 800 freestyle relay, and both the 200 and 400 medley relays.  In all, her 17 All-America honors are tied for most in program history.  At the time of her graduation, she owned school records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, while she owned a total of six pool records at various venues.

After graduation, Ann went on to earn an M.S. in Environmental Science and Management from Duquesne University.  She currently resides in North Huntingdon, Pa with her husband drew and children Elizabeth (7), Rebecca (4), and Alexander (2), and is employed as a scientist for Bechtel Marine Propulsion in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania.
