The 1914 Gator football team went 6-0-1 that year and was coached by C.E. Hammett. The attendance for the games in ’14 was excellent and support from the town was great. The 1914 Gators went a long way in establishing ties between Allegheny College and the Meadville community.
The roster for the ’14 Gators was as follows: Albert F. Munhall, captain and full-back; Charles F. Baker, tackle; Floyd E. Arnold, half-back; George A. Ricker, half-back; Charles V. Allshouse, center; Harold K. Brooks, guard; Malcolm M. Metcalf, end; Charles Melvin Dotterrer, guard; Harry Pierson, end and captain-elect; Raymond A. Cox, quarterback; N. Clair Kramer, tackle; Lawson G. Bash, half-back; and H. Donald Emery, end.
Munhall was the leading scorer for the Gators that year, scoring eight touchdowns, 12 PAT’s, and one field goal for a total of 63 points. Coach Hammett coached for six seasons finishing with a record of 29-9-4, a .690 winning percentage. Records that the 1914 team hold include: most consecutive wins without a loss but including ties, nine (tied with the 1917-18 and 1974-75 teams) and best record (tied with 1917-18 team).
