MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny department of athletics will honor recently-retired volleyball coach Bridget Sheehan with a special program during Allegheny College's Reunion Weekend.

Coach Sheehan, who retired in February after a star-studded 31-year tenure, will be recognized with a special presentation on Saturday, June 3 at 2 p.m. in the David V. Wise Center on the concourse level overlooking the performance gym. Following the presentation, all returning volleyball alumnae are invited to play in a pick-up game, and locker rooms will be open to the participants. Refreshments will also be served throughout the program.

Hired in 1986 as the second volleyball coach in program history, Coach Sheehan amassed a career record of 635-484. She guided the Gators to four North Coast Athletic Conference championships and four trips to the NCAA Division III National Tournament, and was named the NCAC Coach of the Year three times. Her 635 wins rank 25th all-time in Division III women's volleyball history.

Diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 2016, Coach Sheehan was forced to take a leave of absence for the 2016 season. Her battle against cancer gained support from across the region, as thousands of dollars have been raised in her name to the Meadville Medical Center's Yvonne Barco Oncology Center through the #Battle4Bridget campaign. On Oct. 15, Allegheny accepted donations to the Barco Center as it hosted a full slate of athletic events, culminating with the Gators' volleyball match against Denison in front of a capacity crowd in the Wise Center.  This past April, the North Coast Athletic Conference's 10 member institutions also donated all proceeds of the league's annual Change War to the Barco Center in Coach Sheehan's honor.
