CLEVELAND, Ohio – Competing with an abbreviated squad, the Allegheny men's track and field team received a pair of wins and a total of six top-five finishes at the season-opening Case Western Reserve Holiday Classic.
Bolstered by a strong performance by its veterans, Allegheny placed sixth overall at the event, scoring 48 points.
In the weight throw, reigning North Coast Athletic Conference champion Kurtis Williams picked up right where he left off, as he placed first in a field of 17 with a heave of 16.77 meters. It marked the second-best performance in the junior's career, while it topped the field by nearly four feet.
Senior Allen Baugh led the way for the Gator sprinters, as he captured first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.91 seconds to win by two-tenths of a second. He was joined in the top-three by classmate Bennett Falck, who placed third at 23.82 seconds.
The Gators also boasted a pair of top-four runners in the 60 meter dash. After topping the field in the prelims, senior Andre Bryan finished third in the finals with a time of 7.10 seconds, one spot ahead of teammate Baugh who turned in a time of 7.16 seconds.
Bryan also scored for the Gators in the long jump, placing sixth at 6.10 meters.
In his collegiate debut, freshman Noah Parker placed eighth in the shot put with a heave of 12.43 meters, one place ahead of teammate Williams, whose top mark measured 12.20 meters.
The Gators will now have a six-week respite over the semester break, and will return to action on Jan. 19 at the Youngstown State Invitational.
