KENT, Ohio - The Allegheny men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2016-17 indoor season at the two-day Golden Flashes Gala, hosted by Kent State University.
Friday's first day of competition offered an abbreviated schedule, with throwing and jumping events, and Allegheny got off to a strong start competing against athletes from all three NCAA classifications.
On the men's side, senior
Christian Miranda led the way in the weight throw, with a toss of 14.67 meters, tops among all Division III competitors. Sophomore
Kurtis Williams established a new personal record in the event with a heave of 14.17 meters, exactly a half meter better than his previous mark. Williams' classmate
Barry Tevrow was a third Gator in the event, posting a mark of 10.54 meters, the second best performance of his career.
Senior
Sara Von Dolln paced the Allegheny women in the weight with a top throw of 13.42 meters, her best effort in two seasons. Classmate
Sasha Moskowitz opened her final season in the Blue and Gold by setting a personal record in the event, throwing 11.89 meters.
In her career debut, freshman
Samantha Cooper represented Allegheny in the long jump, and posted a top leap of 4.37 meters.
