INDIANAPOLIS: Bill Ross, Associate Athletic Director at Allegheny College, has been appointed to the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track & Field Committee, effective immediately.
Ross will serve on the NCAA Men's and Women's Track & Field Committee through September 2017. The Committee is comprised of a total of eight coaches and administrators, who represent each NCAA region in the United States.
Prior to being named to the school's athletic administration in 2011, Ross served as the head cross country and track and field coach at Allegheny for 14 years. An 11-time U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Regional Coach of the Year, Ross won a total of 31 NCAC Coach of the Year honors between track and field and cross country, and developed 77 NCAA National Championship qualifiers and 34 All-Americans. Ross is a graduate of Slippery Rock University, where he was a National Qualifier for track and field, while also earning three letters in football.
"I am looking forward to serving on the committee," said Ross. "I see this as an opportunity to give back to a sport that has given me so much during my careers as a coach and collegiate athlete."
Before his tenure at Allegheny, Ross was the head men's and women's track and field coach at Thiel College from 1990-96, guiding both the Tomcat men and women to a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference championships apiece. A three-time PAC Coach of the Year and two-time USTFCCCA Mideast Region Coach of the Year, Ross coached a pair of NCAA Division III outdoor national champions, as well as two ECAC champs and 12 NCAA Division III All-Americans.
In his current position of Associate Director of Athletics, Ross is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, upkeep, staffing, and scheduling of all of Allegheny's athletic facilities, as well as the college's club and intramural sports.
"We are absolutely thrilled for Bill," said Allegheny Director of Athletics & Recreation
Portia Hoeg. "He enjoyed so much success and has made so many contributions to collegiate track and cross country, I can't think of anyone who is more deserving. He'll be a great representative of Allegheny College."
