STAFFORD, N.Y. –
Allegheny men's golf delivered a solid start to the fall campaign, finishing second overall at the St. John Fisher Collegiate Invitational hosted by the Stafford Country Club. The Gators held a slight lead following a storm-shortened opening round, but ended up second on the team board as the nationally-ranked No. 7 hosts rallied with an outstanding round on Sunday.

Saturday's opening round was truncated by heavy rains and thunderstorms, which forced the field to suspend play after nine holes. The teams played a full 18 on Sunday, with Allegheny posting a score of 304. St. John Fisher, which trailed the Blue and Gold after the first day of action (143-146), pieced together a near-flawless 279 in powering to the tournament title.

Oliver White was terrific as he carded a four-under par, 33, to take the lead after the first day. He followed with an even par 72 on Sunday en route to a third-place finish.

Patrick Fritz just missed a spot in the top 10 after carding 75 over the final 18 holes. Fritz closed at even par in Saturday's poor conditions and wrapped up the tournament at +4 (112).

Freshman Nick Joseph passed his first collegiate test over the weekend, while giving the indication that he is going to be a key player in Allegheny's postseason aspirations. Joseph dropped from sixth and 17th in the individual standings while totaling 114 (36-78), but his great play during the opening round was highly encouraging, especially following a solid preseason.

Fellow rookie Jimmy Lasher capped the Gators' scoring contingent with a two-day total of 116 (37-79). He also authored a good opening round, before settling into 21st in the individual rankings.

The Gators finished six strokes up on both Daemen and Roberts Wesleyan, and 10 swings in front of the University of Rochester.

St. John Fisher's Corey Haas and Chris Blyth tied for medalist honors with an identical total of four-under par (35-69=104).
